Are you looking to grow your career and make a meaningful impact? Interested in tackling new challenges? We’re looking for people like you!

The Proactive Hiring process is specifically designed for applicants who are seeking job opportunities at a later date. Applying for roles under Proactive Hiring means that you are applying for roles without immediate vacancies. However, we anticipate that we will need to hire for these roles in the next few months.

Here’s what you can expect when applying for a Proactive Hiring role:

  • Merit-based Evaluation: Your application will still undergo our standard skills- and values-based assessments.
  • Longer Lead Time: Turnaround time for processing Proactive Hiring applications may take longer than for Immediate Hiring applications, making it suitable for folks open to exploring opportunities!
  • Reserved Slot as a Priority Candidate: A successful application will result in a slot as one of our top candidates for the role. This is not yet a formal job offer but expresses our intent to extend an offer to you once a vacancy becomes available.
  • First In Line for the Job: Once there is an active vacancy for the role, you will be one of the first people we contact and to whom we extend an official offer!

At Thinking Machines, we treat all our candidates with great care and fairness while ensuring we stay ahead of the curve to anticipate our clients’ needs.

Working at Thinking Machines

Thinking Machines is a technology consultancy building AI & data platforms to solve high impact problems for our clients. Our vision is for Southeast Asia to become a global hub for data science. To do that, we create data cultures one organization at a time.

We’re a company made up of intellectually curious, civic-minded, forever-learning individuals. We believe that great data science products are built with care for people, and that the best way to drive inclusive innovation is to start with a diverse team.

Our field of work is incredibly dynamic, so we want to work with people who are committed to growing with us. We want to hire people who can demonstrate an ability to learn, then provide them with personalized coaching, growth opportunities, and a great working environment to get them to world-class.

Role Description

Spatial is special! It takes a specific set of skills to work with geospatial data. We’re looking for a Geospatial Intelligence Analyst to help our team bring big geospatial data to life. Specifically, you will be working on processing, analyzing, and visualizing datasets from multiple sources, merging them, drawing insights, and effectively communicating them. With the large amount of data generated daily, today’s challenge is bringing them all together effectively to unlock deeper insight into specific locations. These datasets may range from publicly available datasets online, web-based spatial information, social media data, and derived data from satellite imagery.

You will also join our team in designing, hashing out, and implementing geospatial solutions with fellow analysts and stakeholders from our clients. You need to be specifically attuned to the priorities and considerations of our clients, making sure what we build for them is technically sound and can be integrated into their decision process and workflows.

While your daily tasks may vary from project to project, you’ll be expected to work on the following:

  • Combine disparate geospatial data sources into a form that is cohesive and usable. You will use your geospatial analytic skills and understanding of the use case to transform large amounts of data into useful insights and findings.
  • Translate client requirements into data processes and analyses. You will collaborate with users to develop and implement data analytics, perform data quality assessments, and provide insights to support client strategy and decision-making.
  • Write scalable, efficient, and quality data processing pipelines. You will apply engineering best practices to ensure the quality and maintainability of the data automation processes you develop.

Requirements

We're looking for someone who meets the following profile:

  • Effective communicator - You can collaborate with both technical engineers as well as non-technical business users. You know how to adapt your communication style to communicate with the different audiences you will encounter. This extends to building relationships and trust and communicating the value and limitations of our work.
  • Proficient in geospatial data processing - You must be skilled in handling different spatial data types and processing workflows (i.e. spatial predicates, processing raster data, hotspot analysis, etc.).
  • Comfortable with coding - You must be very comfortable writing and explaining code. This ranges from Python for complex geospatial processing to SQL for transformation queries within a database.
  • Quick learning agility - We do not expect you to know everything, but we need you to quickly assimilate knowledge to deliver as you navigate unfamiliar tasks. You can demonstrate this by showing us your capacity to learn independently and problem-solve.
  • Productive curiosity -  You ask a lot of the right questions. Find a surprising correlation? Dig into the raw data to validate it.
  • Strong sense of initiative - You’re always looking for ways to be useful and you hate having nothing to do.

High preference for candidates that have:

  • Experience in using scientific Python libraries — Data analysis with pandas, matplotlib, NumPy, scikit-learn, etc.
  • Experience working with earth observation and remote sensing data sources, such as large-scale LiDAR datasets and Google Earth Engine.
  • Data engineering - Familiarity with SQL, data warehousing concepts, or orchestration techniques
  • Interest in developing automated cloud workflows. Experience with Google Cloud Platform or another cloud computing platform is a huge plus.

Benefits and Perks

We offer the following compensation and benefits:

  • Competitive salary — the compensation amount is positively correlated with the difficulty of the job, relevant experience, fit, and skill factors.

  • Remote first — due to the global pandemic, we have shifted to a remote-first company for the foreseeable future while we monitor the situation.

  • Individual professional development budget— an annual budget for conferences, training courses, books, and software is available to sharpen your skills and build new ones to help you grow in your role.

  • Full health benefits — generous health insurance package upon hiring.
